Pagham to East Head draft coastal defence strategy
(Responses due by 29 August 2008)
Comments were invited on the draft Pagham to East Head coastal defence strategy between May and August 2008. The Environment Agency has worked with the other project partners at Chichester and Arun District Councils to complete a consultation report which is now available to download from this website. Two appendix documents are available with this consultation report. Appendix A (Consultation report Appendix A) includes the draft strategy summary document titled 'planning for the future' and frequently asked questions. Appendix B is split into two files. One of these, (Consultation Report Appendix B without GDII), includes responses from selected key parties. A second one (Consultation Report Appendix B GDII) presents only the Going Dutch II report produced to inform the response from the Manhood Peninsula Partnership.
The report summarises the key points people raised during the consultation and the project team responses to them. It explains how the responses have shaped the strategy recommendations that will be taken forward to seek approval from project partners and the Government.
A newsletter that gives a brief summary of the consultation responses and how they have been used in finalising the strategy is also available from this website (Newsletter_Oct2008). Residents in the strategy area were posted copies of the newsletter at the beginning of November 2008.
We have now completed the strategy and have begun to seek approvals for its recommendations from Chichester and Arun District Councils and nationally within the Environment Agency. We hope to gain these approvals early in 2009 and will then seek further approval from the Government. If the strategy is accepted, we will begin work in 2009 to progress options recommended where we are able to. We recognise how important it is to keep the people affected by the strategy involved as we hope to move from finalising the strategy to carrying out the recommendations. Therefore we will continue to work with key landowners and community representatives throughout this process. Please continue to visit this website for strategy updates or if you need to contact us our general enquiry telephone line is 08708 506 506.
