Climate change is here to stay.  We know that.  It’s a fact.

But what doesn’t have to stay the same are the choices we make that impact on the environment.  Because by making the right choices now we can still slow climate change down and, just as importantly, we can adapt to it.

What it does mean is that we will all have to make changes to our daily routines to adapt to our shifting climate.

5 June 2008 is World Environment Day and across England and Wales we'll be focussing on how we can all Stand-up to Climate Change

We’ve prepared a complete range of resources to help promote the activities - and a we'll be presenting a choice of five key actions that people can take now to start a new routine. The website will go live on 27th May. If you want to promote WED and get access to our toolkit of online and printed resources send us an email to wed@environment-agency.gov.uk

And of course it's important not to forget to reduce our carbon footprint - the ACT ON CO2 campaign and government calculator aims to encourage people to reduce theirs'. We're co-promoting that side of climate change with our Stand-up to Climate Change activities.  The global UNEP theme this year is called CO2 Kick the Habit - towards a low carbon economy - and is very similar to ACT ON CO2.

Such a daunting topic requires a fresh approach  - and we've got that too - but you'll have to wait and see what it is.

All we can say for now is ... it's time for a new routine.

Total promises
