Rainfall

July was a very wet month, particularly in Wales, the south west and northern England.  It was driest in the far south east and parts of East Anglia (see Rainfall Map*).  The wettest periods were during the first half of the month and at the very end (see Cumulative Rainfall and LTA Rainfall charts).

The majority of the south west, north east and parts of central southern England and south Wales had over 190% of the July LTA rainfall.  In contrast, the far south east and parts of East Anglia received around average rainfall.  All other areas received above average rainfall (see LTA Rainfall Map#).

All regions received more than the July LTA rainfall.  With the exception of our Southern and Anglian Regions, all regions had close to or more than 175% of the LTA (see LTA Rainfall chart).  Relative to the LTA, our North East and South West Regions received the most rainfall at 209% and 223% respectively.  Overall, England and Wales received 179% of the LTA rainfall.  July was the seventh month out of the last eight with above average rainfall across England and Wales.
