Review of the 2007 summer floods

Our review

We have completed our 2007 summer floods review . We carry out a review after every major flood to identify lessons we can learn and good practice we can implement. This enables us to continue to improve how we manage flood risk and limit the consequences for people, the economy and the environment in a changing climate.

Our review includes six case studies and over 100 internet pages.

Independent Government Review

Our review has fed into the Government’s review lead by Sir Michael Pitt. On 17 December Sir Micheal Pitt launched his interim report.

You can read this report and provide comments to the Government review team using their website.

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee inquiry

The Environment Food and Rural Affairs Committee (EFRA) is holding an inquiry into the recent flooding. They are gathering evidence from members of the public who were affected by the floods and key organisations who were involved in the response. We submitted written evidence and gave oral evidence at the first EFRA hearing on 10 October 2007. The final report will feed into the Government's review.

Other reviews

Other organisations are undertaking reviews of the summer floods. We are talking to these review teams so that we can share information and not duplicate effort.

Reviews of previous floods

We conduct a review after every major flood. These reviews are available on our website.
