Catchment abstraction management strategies

The gateway to all of the CAMS for England and Wales.

We are responsible for managing water resources in England and Wales.

One of the ways that this is done is through licensing water abstraction. We developed catchment abstraction management strategies (CAMS) to:

  • inform the public on water resources and licensing practice
  • provide a consistent approach to local water resources management
  • help to balance the needs of water-users and the environment

The CAMS process has been reviewed and updated.

The new process strengthens links with other water resource activities to improve future water management.
