Wales Mobile Monitoring Facility Annual Report 2004-5

In Wales we operate a mobile air quality monitoring laboratory. It helps local authorities and us to make sure the quality of the air is good enough to protect people and the environment.

During the financial year 2004/05 we made two important improvements to the laboratory. We updated the data-logging software and installed a new instrument to measure PM 2.5 (fine particles less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter).

During 2004/5 we used mobile air quality monitoring equipment at:

  • High Cross, Newport
  • Port Talbot
  • Aberthaw, Vale of Glamorgan
  • Pen Lôn, Anglesey
  • Gelli, Rhondda.

We have published annual reports on the activities of the laboratory as well as reports of our findings at each site where we have used it.

This report contains an account of progress with the Wales Mobile Monitoring Facility, as well as details of what it has told us about air quality in Wales during 2004/5.
