We spend over £40 million a year protecting people and property from flooding in the North West. By 2011, we aim to offer an appropriate flood warning service to 130,000 properties that are at risk of flooding from rivers and the sea.
We take the leading role warning people at risk of flooding so they can take action to protect themselves when a flood event occurs. Around 100,000 people within our flood warning areas rely on our latest technology to predict flood events, and to alert them so they can safeguard themselves and their property.
Our maps provide information on possible flooding from rivers and the sea for England and Wales. For the first time, they also have information on flood defences, and indicate the potential extent of extreme flood events which may be experienced as a result of climate change.
