North East Coast Net Limitation Order 2012

The Environment Agency is responsible for regulating rod licences and the sea fishery within six miles of the Yorkshire and North East coast.

Our aim is to have sustainable salmon and sea trout populations returning to east coast rivers. The Net Limitation Order (NLO) governs the number of drift and beach (T and J) nets licensed to catch fish along the Yorkshire and North East Coast.

Defra Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon confirmed the North East Coast Net Limitation Order on 6 December 2012, with one amendment.

In confirming the Order, consideration has been given to scientific advice on the assessment of salmon and sea trout stock levels, international commitments and guidelines issued by the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation, good practice for salmon fisheries management and socio-economic factors.
