We invited your comments on the second phase of the Environmental Permitting Programme (EPP2) in a consultation this spring. The consultation summary response has now been published and can be downloaded from this page.
Open date: 16 February 2009
Closing date: 11 May 2009
The Environmental Permitting Programme is a vital part of our drive to deliver Better Regulation. It is designed to reduce administrative burdens — cutting costs for operators and the Environment Agency — while continuing to protect the environment and human health.
The Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) provide a single, common, risk-based framework for permitting and compliance. This is a joint initiative between the Environment Agency, DEFRA, the Department for Energy and Climate Change and the Welsh Assembly Government.
We have already successfully brought together waste and pollution prevention control permitting into a single streamlined system. We will now bring this way of doing things to other regimes as part of our aim to create a single approach to applying for and issuing all permits.
The second stage (EPP2) will include:
- Water Discharge consents
- Groundwater Authorisations
- Radioactive Substances Regulations permits
