With 2007 drawing to a close, Environment Agency Wales is raising flood awareness across Wales with its 2008 Flood Warning calendar. The calendar features paintings of rivers during the course of a year as seen through the eyes of local children.

Schools took part in the 'Design a Calendar Illustration' competition. The successful entrants won book tokens, along with a framed picture of their winning entries.

Emyr Jones, Agency Northern Area Flood Incident Management Team Leader, said: “The bilingual calendars will be sent to homes, businesses, professional partners, and community councils in flood warning areas. We have set up a flood partnership with the local community and distribute these calendars to help provide them with useful information on what to do before, during and after a flood.

“By highlighting our free flood warning service, the calendars will increase general awareness of flooding issues in the area. Our flood warning calendar provides a handy reference of useful information and will help maintain awareness throughout 2008.”
