It’s not just Team GB who will be celebrating in Weymouth and Portland this weekend. After a busy two weeks, the Natural & Weymouth and Portland Partnership will be providing activities at key wildlife sites across the borough on Saturday and Sunday.
Gemma Sweet, Communications Business Partner for Environment Agency, South West Region, said; “We had such a great time at the Bayside festival, meeting around 40000 people, that we wanted to continue to inspire locals and visitors about Weymouth and Portland's wonderful natural environment.”
The focus of this weekend’s activity will be Portland Bill Tourist Information Centre (TIC), the newly opened Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre, managed by Dorset Wildlife Trust, and the RSPB’s Wild Weymouth Discovery Centre – each easy to spot with their “Natural” flags.
At Portland Bill TIC members of the partnership will be providing environmental information and children's activities.
At the Chesil Beach Centre, Dorset Wildlife Trust have a range fun materials on display including the litter free coast and sea windsurfing board and wave - made entirely out of marine and beach litter. There will be activities for young people too including a fossil dig and Jurassic Coast cabinet of curiosity.
At the RSPB’s Wild Weymouth Discovery Centre at Radipole lake in the heart of town family activities will include pond dipping, arts and crafts and of course birdwatching for everyone.
Gemma added: “Weymouth and Portland has so much to offer, and it’s fantastic to have a great team to be able to share their enthusiasm for the boroughs wildlife and environment and get people connected with the wild side!”
