Stour flooding and Iford evacuation update - joint statement

11-Jul-2012

Iford Bridge Home Park was evacuated yesterday as a precautionary measure following the receipt of a flood warning from the Environment Agency.

Residents were asked to temporarily leave their homes overnight due to rising river levels.

The Council provided support to all residents in finding alternative accommodation and social care staff were available to support the vulnerable.  Council staff remained on site all night to monitor the situation and support those who chose not to leave their homes.

The flood water did breach the banks of the river and areas of the park were flooded.  However, no homes were affected and the electricity supply was maintained all night.

The Environment Agency do not expect any further flooding to effect the area at present, and the water has now subsided.

Residents have been advised that they can return to their homes when they feel ready to do so.  The Council and the Environment Agency continue to work with all partner agencies to monitor the situation.
