Information on the application from Peel Energy for an environmental permit - updated 17 October 2012
Latest news
We have now granted an environmental permit to Peel Energy Ltd to operate a biomass combustion plant at Trafford Boulevard Manchester.
This decision is the outcome of our careful consideration and thorough determination of the application since we accepted it in January 2011. We have used the most up-to-date scientific evidence and received specialist advice on health matters during this process. As a result we are satisfied that the proposed facility will not harm the health of local people or the environment, and have granted the environmental permit.
Planning Permission
The environmental permit is separate from planning permission which was refused by Trafford Council in November 2011 and then appealed by Peel Energy Ltd. This decision by the Environment Agency does not affect any decision the Planning Inspectorate will make and Peel Energy cannot proceed in building the proposed plant until that decision is made.
