Information about the proposed Energy from Waste facility in Cardiff

What's happened so far?

Over the past 18 months, Environment Agency Wales has carried out a rigorous investigation into Viridor’s proposals for an energy from waste facility at Trident Park, Ocean Way, Cardiff. We have used the most up-to-date scientific evidence and received specialist advice on health matters.

Having concluded this work, we have decided to grant them an environmental permit to operate an energy from waste facility in Cardiff as we are satisfied the proposed facility will not pose a significant risk to the heath of local residents or to the environment.

What's the latest news?

Environment Agency Wales reached its final decision following investigation and consultation into Viridor’s proposed facility in Trident Park, Ocean Way, Cardiff, and the impact it would have on local people and the environment.

As part of our investigation, we sought specialist health advice from the Local Health Board who are informed by Public Health Wales and the Health Protection Agency.

These organisations advised us that the proposed facility at Trident Park will not pose a significant risk to the heath of local residents or to the environment.

This is based on their understanding of the most up-to-date scientific research into the health effects of modern incineration  facilities.

If the facility is built, Environment Agency Wales officers will enforce the strict emission levels and operating standards throughout its operation.
