Bathing water quality
Bathing water quality in England has improved significantly over the last 20 years. Find out what the water quality is like at your favourite beach and how we are working to improve it.
To better inform you about where to go swimming, the Environment Agency tests the water quality at over 400 bathing waters in England during the bathing water season (15 May to 30 September).
Every week during the bathing season (15 May to 30 September), we take samples at coastal and inland designated bathing waters and assess them against the standards of the European Bathing Water directive.
