Rain throughout today has caused the River Wear to rise. The river is out of bank and flooding low lying land and roads, in several locations. River levels are continuing to rise in Durham City, and flooding is happening and is forecast to affect properties near Elvet Waterside and around Baths Bridge, under New Elvet and Old Elvet Bridges. Framwellgate Waterside and parts of the Sands area may also be affected. There have been unconfirmed reports of property flooding in these areas especially subterranean carparks and roads have been closed near the Framwellgate Waterside. We do not expect anymore heavy rainfall, and levels on the Wear will continue to rise and should peak around 23:00 this evening. We are closely monitoring the situation and have workers in the field to relay information. This message will be updated by 23.30 this evening, or earlier if the situation changes. Some river levels for the Wear can be viewed on our website.
