Find out about the British Standards Institute (BSI) Kitemark scheme for flood protection products
The Kitemark scheme is a BSI certification scheme that tests flood products against a standard (PAS1188). If the product passes it will have demonstrated that it is suitable for use to protect property against flooding. The scheme is managed by the British Standards Institution (BSI) and will result in approved products being awarded a BSI Kitemark, a widely recognised symbol of quality for consumer goods.
The test standard (PAS1188) was updated in March 2009 and now includes, amongst other changes, a requirement for manufacturers to include a test height and width on their products so that customers will know to what size of openings the products are suitable for.
The test standard (PAS1188) is now in four parts covering:
1. Household flood protection products.
2. Freestanding temporary flood barriers.
3. Property flood skirt systems.
4. Demountable flood barriers.
We are developing a test centre with HR Wallingford which will enable manufacturers to test their products in accordance with the test standard. This test centre will be available in the summer of 2009.
