We are working closely with Lead Local Flood Authorities and other partner organisations to ensure we capture the full picture of flooding across the south west last year.
The exceptionally wet weather, from the summer through to winter 2012, led to flooding in a large number of communities throughout the south west. As a consequence we are going out to these communities to hear their experiences and offer advice on flood resilience and help in drawing up community flood plans.
This month we have held more than 20 drop-in sessions - in communities including Ladock, Cawsand, Helston and Mousehole in Cornwall, East Budleigh and Stoke Canon in Devon, Williton, Moorland and Muchelney in Somerset and Malmesbury in Dorset.
The drop-ins have been well attended, with more than 100 at several, and they have enabled communities to tell us what happened to them and seek advice on being resilient to future flooding through the development of community flood groups and community owned and operated flood plans.
We are also contacting other communities to determine where else might benefit from a drop-in session and/or help in developing community flood plans.
We want to hear from you
If you weren't able to attend one of these drop-ins we'd still like to hear about your experience of the floods.
- Was your home, garden or business flooded?
- Did you know where to go to find information about protecting yourself and your property?
- If you took action to protect yourself against flooding, did it help?
- Are you registered for Flood Warning Direct, our free service where we send you a direct message when we expect flooding that may affect your property?
- Is there anything which would have helped you to be better prepared or better protected?
- Are you interested in helping your community improve its protection from flooding?

Please send your recollections and ideas to us:
Please include any photos you took during the event. If you send us photos please include the location, date and approximate time the photo was taken. If you are the photographer and would be happy for us to use the photo in our work to help communities protect themselves against flooding then please let us know.
If you would prefer to speak to someone about your experience then please call 03708 506 506 and ask to speak to either the Wessex or the Devon and Cornwall Flood Resilience team.
The information you give us will help us work with the communities affected by flooding to help them prepare and increase protection for the future.
