Flood defence maintenance in South East Wales

Find out how our flood maintenance work reduces the risk of flooding in south east Wales.

We maintain approximately 700 miles of river in South East Wales, which includes the rivers Taff, Ely, Ebbw, Rhondda, Rhymney and Thaw. We remove blockages in the river, maintain bank side vegetation, remove shoals of stone that build up in the river bed, and ensure the rivers are clear should we receive heavy rainfall and flood waters.

Our officers have been carrying out essential maintenance to help reduce flood risk in the Roath area.

We have reinforced the banks of the River Rhymney at Old St Mellons to help reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
