Find out more about West Wittering flood alleviation.
Background
West Wittering is approximately 10km south west of Chichester in West Sussex and at significant risk of flooding from high tides in Chichester Harbour. Both the widescale North Solent Shoreline Management Plan and the more locally focussed Pagham to East Head Coastal Defence Strategy recommend improving the flood defences in West Wittering.
What we are doing
We have now started work on site to build the new flood defence at West Wittering. Once completed it will provide a better level of protection from flooding to 55 properties, the local school and the pumping station. The new defence will look similar to the one that is there now, but it will be taller and wider. The defence will be made out of earth and clay with rocks protecting the wet side.
To keep people safe, we will have to close the footpath during our works - we apologise for any disruption this may cause. To help us keep everyone safe, please take special care whilst using the beach and car parks, especially if you have children and pets with you.
