Thames Barrier Information Centre and Café

Visit the Information Centre to find out how the Thames Barrier was designed, built and how it works. Also learn about the history and environment of the River Thames.
Enjoy the spectacular views from our café which overlooks the Barrier and the River Thames. We offer hot and cold snacks and light lunches. We also have an outside picnic and children’s play area.

Opening times
The Information Centre and café are open to visitors seven days a week all year round.
*Please note that the Information Centre will be closed for refurbishment from Monday 22 February to Sunday 28 February 2010. Our cafe and the rest of the site will be open as usual. We will have a small temporary display about the Thames Barrier in the cafe and we will have members of staff available to answer your questions. There may be also some changes to our usual opening hours during the week beginning Monday 15th February so please call before you visit.*
- Between April and September we’re open from 10.30am – 4.30pm (last entry to the Information Centre at 4pm).
- Between October and March we’re open from 11am – 3.30pm (last entry to the Information Centre at 3pm).
We close for a short period at Christmas and New Year (please contact us for this years dates). Contact details are at the bottom of this page.

If you are bringing a group of more than 10 people, please contact us to book your visit and pre-order any food for your group.
Group talks
Would your club, society or group like to learn more about the Thames Barrier? If so, you can book the Information Centre for a visit. One of our Information Assistants will guide you through the centre, and give a talk about the Thames, the Environment Agency and the Thames Barrier. They’ll also answer any questions you have. You can also go for a short guided walk along the riverfront to get a closer look at the Thames Barrier.

This price includes the cost of admission to the Information Centre for up to 30 people. For groups of more than 30 people, there will be an additional charge of £3.50 per person up to a maximum of 35 people.
Group Talks are only available if you book in advance and we will ask you to pre-book any food for your group.
Holiday activities
During the school holidays we offer a range of fun activities with an environmental theme. Any children aged 3 to 12 are welcome. Please follow the link below to find out more details.
Parking:
Car parking is in our pay and display car park and costs £1.50 for the day.
For security reasons the car park is locked when we close:
• Between April and September the car park is closed at 4.30pm
• Between October and March the car park is closed at 3.30pm
Coach parking is £10 for the day. However, if you book in advance and visit our Information Centre then coach parking is free.
