What you can do

We can all take steps to reduce our climate footprint - our personal contribution to global warming.

The first step is to use energy more efficiently in our homes and as we travel. Together these sources are responsible for half of all British emissions of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas. More if you include international air travel, which is not currently covered by the Kyoto Protocol.

Defra recently launched a website as part of 'Every Action Counts' - a new initiative to empower, engage and enable communities across England on environmental sustainability. You can visit the website at

English Heritage's Climate Change and Your Home website helps people who own or manage houses to understand more about the potential impacts of climate change and ways to save energy.
