We record the pollution released into the environment by industrial sites under the EC Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive (IPPC).
Operators must measure or make an estimate of the amount of emissions of each controlled substance every year. They must also specify "notifiable" releases in a year. These are where there has been an emergency, mis-management, accident or plant failure which has caused pollutants to be released.
Understanding the air pollution map
Please use the following key to identify different types of emissions.
Carbon Dioxide emissions to air up to 10,000 tonnes.
Carbon Dioxide emissions to air between 10,000 and 100,000 tonnes.
Carbon Dioxide emissions to air above 100,000 tonnes.
Dioxins emissions to air up to 0.01 gram.
Dioxins emissions to air between 0.01 and 0.1 gram.
Dioxins emissions to air above 0.1 gram.
Nitrogen Oxides
Nitrogen Oxides emissions to air up to 100 tonnes.
Nitrogen Oxides emissions to air between 100 and 1,000 tonnes.
Nitrogen Oxides emissions to air above 1,000 tonnes.
Particulates (PM10) emissions to air up to 10 tonnes.
Particulates (PM10) emissions to air between 10 and 100 tonnes.
Particulates (PM10) emissions to air above 100 tonnes.
Sulphur Oxides emissions to air up to 100 tonnes.
Sulphur Oxides emissions to air between 100 and 1,000 tonnes.
Sulphur Oxides emissions to air above 1,000 tonnes.
