Waste infrastructure 2010

This is information about the locations of permitted waste management facilities in England and activities they carry out.

Defra commissioned a Waste Infrastructure Report in 2010 as part of the evidence to support their Waste Policy Review.

The report does not draw conclusions on the ‘state’ of the nation’s waste infrastructure but provides information to help national policy makers assess how policies are impacting on the type and numbers of waste facilities available over time.

The data and information will help local planning authorities to assess the potential need for alternative capacity and inform investment decisions by the waste management industry.

Waste Infrastructure Report

We have brought this data together in a national report to describe what capacity there is, where it is and what types of waste it can take:

Data tables

The data tables referred to in the Waste Infrastructure Report are provided as an Excel worksheet. You can obtain this from our National Requests team:

We intend to update the data tables annually. For a summary of the information provided in the data tables so you can see whether or not they will be useful for you, please read this document:

Whether you pay a charge will depend on whether you want to use the data commercially or non-commercially. However, for both types of use, we will supply a licence which sets out how you can use the data.

Non-commercial organisations include local authorities, not-for-profit organisations and charities.

Commercial organisations are those that may want to reuse the data for profit, for example, industry consultants, value added resellers. The charge varies depending on the size of your organisation. For this data the charge ranges from £937.50 to £7,500. The National Request Team will be happy to assist you in determining the appropriate charge for your organisation.
