Water levels are expected to fall further on the Somerset Levels this week due to the country’s largest ever pumping operation, but 1 severe flood warning remains in force in the area.
Groundwater levels also remain exceptionally high across much of the south of England, causing a continued risk of flooding around Croydon as well as in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, West Sussex, West Berkshire, Kent and Surrey. We are supporting local authorities and utility companies as they respond to incidents of groundwater flooding.
High tides could combine today with high river levels along the tidal reaches of the River Severn in Gloucestershire and communities are urged to remain vigilant and sign up to flood warnings.
There is 1 severe flood warning, 18 flood warnings and 105 flood alerts in place.
With the weather forecast to improve this week water levels are expected to fall across the country, helping to lower flood risk.
