A consignee must send information on the wastes they received to the waste producer or holder.
Regulation 54 of the Hazardous Waste Regulations requires that a consignee (site that has received hazardous waste) must make a return to the producer or holder of the waste.
This must comprise specified information on the wastes they received. The details to be provided, including the fate of the wastes, using recovery and disposal codes, are listed in Appendices B and C of our guidance HWR05 - Record keeping.
Alternatively, the returns may be provided by sending copies of the consignments notes together with descriptions of the disposal or recovery methods applied to the wastes.
In both cases a consignee must provide the producer or holder with a return within one month of the end of the quarter in which they received the waste.
