Improving opportunities for SMEs
SMEs play an important role of in delivering UK economic growth and prosperity. The Government has set a target for 25% of central government spend to go to SMEs by 2015. We are committed to supporting this target and encourage SMEs to bid for our contracts.
Winning the Contract is a free online course. It provides an introduction to the public sector explains the procurement process and also offers practical advice to help you identify new business opportunities.
We aim to pay all invoices within 10 days from date of receipt of the invoice. We also encourage our prime contractors to pay sub-contractors within 30 days.
Supplier registration (ProContract)
For major purchases (over £50,000), the Environment Agency requires all suppliers to register and use our new online eSourcing tool – ProContract. This is completely free and takes only a few minutes by visiting our website. The process of communicating with and inviting our suppliers to bid for our contracts has been an issue in the past and one that we are striving to make much simpler. We will advertise appropriate opportunities on the portal and once you are registered as a supplier, the system has the capability to e-mail you directly of opportunities that arise in any of the relevant categories you have registered your business against.

Government Procurement Service
Government Procurement Service is an executive agency of the Cabinet Office. Its overall priority is to provide procurement savings for the UK public sector as a whole and specifically to deliver centralised procurement for Central Government Departments.
Who to contact
To manage this strategic business relationship we have regional teams of procurement professionals. Regional teams are responsible for procurement activity within their region. Additionally each team has responsibility for a specific commodity portfolio on behalf of the Environment Agency nationally.
