Waste export controls tool
Our waste export controls tool will help you work out the controls that apply to the export of wastes for recovery to specific countries from England and Wales. It will not tell you about the rules that apply in those countries of destination or transit. You should use the tool to find out about controls before you contact us:
Producer responsibility exports of waste packaging, WEEE and waste batteries
If you want to export waste packaging, waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) or waste batteries under Producer Responsibility regulations you can find out how to become an accredited exporter or approved exporter. Before you export any waste use the waste export controls tool to check the controls that apply.
Exporting waste tyres to Hong Kong
Waste tyres may be exported legitimately to Hong Kong under the ‘green list’ controls. When shipping waste tyres to Hong Kong, you should first establish that the destination is a genuine recycling or recovery facility. Anyone asked to carry, arrange or ship these tyres, should ask those requesting the shipment to provide adequate evidence to support this. This includes the contract between the person arranging the shipment and the destination facility in Hong Kong for the recovery of the tyres.
This evidence must as a minimum include:
- the address at which the waste tyres will be recycled or recovered
- details of the recycling or recovery operation itself
If you are uncertain whether the details you have been given, relate to a genuine recycling facility, you can seek guidance from our International Waste Shipments (IWS) team. IWS may ask for further evidence to be provided and may need to verify details with the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department.
