Environmental permitting for radioactive substance activities on nuclear sites

From 6 April 2010 we regulate the disposal of radioactive waste from nuclear sites under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 (EPR).

We also regulate certain aspects of the keeping and use of radioactive sources on nuclear sites. These Regulations replace the Radioactive Substances Act 1963 (RSA93).  For convenience we call this Radioactive Substances Regulation (RSR).

The Regulations do not change the legal requirements, Government Policy or the technical requirements in relation to the regulation of  radioactive substances on nuclear sites. We have produced some new guidance for environmental permitting and updated some existing guidance. Other existing guidance remains valid apart from minor changes in terminology following the change to environmental permitting.
