Baseline charge increases kept down again

On the 1 April our charges for Radioactive Substances Regulation, Discharges to Controlled Water, EU Emissions Trading Scheme and Water Abstraction came into effect for the 2008/2009 financial year.

In addition, on the 6 April the new Environmental Permitting (EP) Regulations came into effect (see story in last e-newsletter). These regulations introduce a new EP Charging Scheme to replace Pollution Prevention and Control and Waste Management Licensing. The new scheme is based on the first release of our new Unified Charging Framework that will progressively make our charges easier to understand and use. To accompany the scheme we have also produced some guidance to help customers understand the charges.

All of our schemes are subject to a baseline increase to charges of 3.4 per cent (3.6 per cent for former PPC Installations) in 2008/09. Due to our ongoing efficiency savings we have managed to keep the increase to below the rate of inflation for the sixth consecutive year.

On our website we have a fact sheet for each scheme that explains how the charges have changed from last year.
