How we are structured

Our structure, from boardroom to local offices

So that we can work more effectively, we are divided into a number of offices and services around England.

Head office

Split between Bristol and London, our head office is where we set our corporate strategy - Creating a better place 2010 - 2015. Our chief executive and directors are based here, and they are responsible for making sure our policies are carried out consistently across the country, taking into account the environmental, social and economic differences in each region. We also support the work of our regional offices from here.

National Services

We have a number of National Services, which help us do our job more effectively. By doing things in one place rather than in every office, they save money and make us more effective.

Regional Offices

The Environment Agency is divided into six regions - South East, South West, Midlands, Anglian, North West and North East - each of which has a Regional Office, run by a Regional Director. They support the area offices and help co-ordinate their activities.

Area Offices

There are area offices across England. The people who work in these offices are responsible for the day-to-day management of the area and for making sure that the needs of the local community are met. Most of the staff you will meet are from area offices. We respond to emergencies and incidents from here, and because we're local, we can deal with it quickly.

If you need to get in touch with any of our offices, please call our national customer contact centre on 0370 8506506.
